Impressions of Mumbai: Private tour with an individually organized guide

We got up with the firm intention to walk past the first cab drivers to the end of the street today to negotiate the best possible price. Unfortunately, one of the first people in the swarm was very, very persistent and chased us. We insisted on $20, as that was the very price we had heard yesterday at the end of the street – as a starting point. The dealer, who literally stuck to us, had probably already looked at us that we would not be able to hold out to the end of the road. However, his English skills convinced us and we agreed on 35 dollars for two people.

That was more than we thought, but probably not as expensive as the official AIDA tour, where you move around in a large group, for a four-hour private tour. We were then a bit surprised when he told us that he would now take us to our driver for the day with his cab. Too bad, we thought, because then his language skills are of no use to us. His assurance that the guide would also speak very understandable English was true, however, and we had with Hakim (who, by the way, also takes bookings via his Facebook page: “Trip Mumbai Tours & Travels“) a very well-informed driver and guide who got out with us every time to explain a few more things and, if necessary, also to help and mediate with market purchases.

2nd tour in Mumbai: $35 for 2 people, very well guided tour, about 4h. Stops: Dhobi Gat open air laundry, a Jain temple, Gandhi’s house & museum, Crawford Market – Hakim_Mumbaitour@yahoo.com

We did the stops mentioned above. It was worth it!
