Today we had a look at the city zoo which was called Botanical Garden – all in all no different animals than in a regular European zoo and I often start to pity these poor animals when seeing them behind bars in their tiny habitat. This time, it’s no different and I start to wonder if we get to see enough nature on this trip to really experience wildlife.<\/p>\n

During the day we have also realized that weather forecasts are not as reliable here – all day long we were prepared for rain which didn’t come down in the end. Lucky us!<\/p>\n

When researching on District 1 which is really the city center of HCMC we came across the famous „Rex Hotel“ which is a stone’s throw away from our hotel. It’s rooftop bar offered fantastic views on the city, but when we treated ourselves with cocktails we were not that satisfied and found the value-for-money elsewhere is just better. So this is just a very touristy thing to do here.<\/p>\n

Nguy\u1ec5n Hu\u1ec7, the main street and today declared pedestrian zone, becomes a nightlife hot spot. Groups of teenagers and grown-ups gather in the street, bring their music, start to dance and make a contest out of it. The illuminated fountains which we saw were quite an attraction, also for small children who tried to catch the water.\u00a0Strange thing to notice was the Vietnamese voices (my polite guess is propaganda) were broadcast for everyone to hear over permanent loudspeakers on the street.<\/p>\n

\/\/ Zoo: Saigon Botanical Garden & Zoo<\/a><\/p>\n

Heute haben wir einen Blick auf den Stadtzoo geworfen, genannt der Botanische Garten – alles in allem, gab es nicht wirklich verschieden Tiere im Gegensatz zu europ\u00e4ischen Zoos. H\u00e4ufig fange ich wirklich an, diese armen Tiere zu bemitleiden, wie sie da hinter Gittern in ihrem K\u00e4fig hocken. Auch dieses Mal ist es nicht anders und ich \u00fcberlege ernsthaft, ob wir genug Natur auf dieser Reise sehen, um die wirkliche Tierwelt zu erfahren.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend des Tages haben wir auch begriffen, dass die Wetterberichte nicht wirklich zuverl\u00e4ssig sind hier – den ganzen Tag haben wir uns auf Regen vorbereitet, der sich zum Ende nicht hat sehen lassen. Wir gl\u00fccklichen!<\/p>\n

Wenn man den 1. Bezirk erkundet, der wirklich das Stadtzentrum von HCMC ist, dann sto\u00dft man auf das ber\u00fchmte „Hotel Rex“, welches nur ein Steinwurf von unserem Hotel entfernt ist. Seine Bar auf dem Dach bietet eine fantastische Sicht auf die Stadt, aber als wir Cocktails bestellten, waren wir uns einig, dass das Preis-Leistungsverh\u00e4ltnis woanders deutlich besser ist. So ist das hier, einfach nur ein sehr touristisches Ding.<\/p>\n

Nguy\u1ec5n Hu\u1ec7, die Hauptstra\u00dfe, welche heute als eine Fu\u00dfg\u00e4ngerzone gilt, wird zum Treffpunkt des Nachtlebens. Gruppen von Teenagern und Erwachsenen versammeln sich auf der Stra\u00dfe, bringen ihre Musik mit, fangen an zu tanzen und machen ein Battle daraus. Die beleuchteten Brunnen, die wir gesehen haben, waren eine echte Attraktion auch f\u00fcr kleine Kinder, die versucht haben das Wasser zu fangen. Seltsam waren die vietnamesischen Stimmen (meine h\u00f6fliche Annahme es sei Propaganda), welche f\u00fcr alle \u00fcber Lautsprecher dauerhaft auf der Stra\u00dfen zu h\u00f6ren waren.<\/p>\n
